At Icknield Community College, we aim to provide a safe, caring and friendly environment for all our pupils to allow them to learn effectively, improve their life chances and help them maximise their potential.
The school is committed to supporting and promoting excellent school attendance for all students. It is only by attending school regularly and punctually that children and young people will be able to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. High attainment depends on good attendance.
The whole school community – students, parents and carers, teaching and support staff, and school governors – has a responsibility for ensuring good school attendance. Everyone has an important role to play.
At Icknield we encourage all of our students to aim to keep their attendance above 97%. When students slip below this target they are at risk of underachievement and are much less able to fulfil their potential.
When students’ attendance falls below 96% actions are taken to get their attendance back on track. This may be additional monitoring, mentoring, rewards and incentives, interventions to remove any barriers to attendance, contact with parents, parent contracts or – in extreme cases – penalty warnings and referrals to the County Attendance Team for prosecution.
