Health and Social Care

What we teach

We teach students about how people grow and develop over the course of their lives from infancy to old age and the factors that may affect this, such as major life events. We teach students about how people adapt to these changes and the local and national health and social care support that is available to them. We teach students about the health and social care services in our local community and how people can access the care they need. We also teach students about key care values and skills in measuring and interpreting data about a someone’s physiological health in order to design a care plan to improve their health and wellbeing.

How we teach

We combine the teaching of theory with a range of practical activities so students are able to apply theory to practice. We help students to develop their research skills and enable them to write formal reports on their findings.

Why we teach

This is a vocational course which gives students an insight into the health and social care workplace setting. It leads on to further vocational qualifications and is an alternative route to a GCSE level qualification.

The headteacher, senior leaders and local governing board know the school’s strengths and areas for development very well (Ofsted 2019)
