Guided Choices

During KS3, students at Icknield study a broad and balanced curriculum including English, Maths, Science, Computing, Geography, History, RE, Music, Art, Drama, PE, Citizenship, Food and Nutrition, 3D Design, Textiles and either French or Spanish.

In Year 9, students will choose some of the subjects that they want to continue studying into KS4.  All students will study GCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Maths and Combined Science but students will then have guidance to choose the other subjects they wish to continue with.

A ‘Guided Choices’ evening is held in January for Year 9 students and their parents/carers. On this occasion, parents/carers have the opportunity to discuss courses with Heads of Faculty and/ or Heads of Department. After the evening, students select the choices they would like to study during Key Stage 4 by selecting subjects from option blocks to ensure a balanced curriculum.

A small group of students may study fewer subjects and gain additional small group support within their timetable to ensure that they gain the best possible grades in the core subjects.

A small number of students may have bespoke timetables where they may attend college course or work experience instead of studying a full range of GCSE subjects.

The Guided Choices Booklet and Form for 2019/20 will be published on here after the Guided Choices Evening in January.  For any further questions on Guided Choices please contact Vicky Pickford.
