Year 7 is a year focused on giving students practical experience. They will learn to use the essential equipment of food preparation such as knives, blenders, grill, hob and oven...and, most importantly, they will make (and eat) plenty of food!

This unit also teaches students to understand key components of Public Health England's Eatwell Guide.

Key knowledge developed:

  • Understanding key health and safety requirements in commercial and domestic kitchens
  • Understanding the concept of food miles and how it influences decisions about what we eat
  • Knowing key components of Public Health England's Eatwell Guide

Key skills developed:

  • How to demonstrate basic knife skills
  • How to use a grill, hob and oven
