Unit Content

Unit 1

Skill development

 

Students use and develop a variety of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in team and individual activities. They develop their technique and improve their performance in a range of sports. Students build on the skills that they have learnt in KS3 sports while also learning the skills of new sports.

Unit 2

Health and fitness

Students participate in a range of activities that develop personal fitness and promote an active, healthy lifestyle.

Key knowledge developed:

  • Understanding diet (balanced diet, calorie intake)
  • Understanding components of fitness
  • Understanding types of training
  • Understanding the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle
  • Understanding the physical, mental and social benefits of participating in physical activity

Key skills developed:

  • How to use exercise equipment safely
  • How to calculate appropriate intensities at which to perform

Unit 3

Personal skill development

Students develop holistic skills which are transferrable beyond PE lessons.

Key knowledge developed:

  • Knowing about team work
  • Understanding verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Understanding leadership and resilience

Key skills developed:

  • Knowing how to build motivation
  • Knowing how to evaluate performance
